Advocacy Training - Debate Exchange

Uluslararası Gençlik Çalışmaları Merkezi Derneği-International Youth Activities Center Association (IYACA) will organize advocacy-themed local trainings in cooperation with Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) within the scope of Erasmus Plus Virtual Exchange Project and will carry out debating activities at international level. The project will take place between 30 May 2020 - 31 December 2020. Local training will be organized for 120 people in total. A total of 50 people will be included in the international debate activities on behalf of IYACA as team leaders, speakers or observers through the teams to be formed in these trainings. At the end of the event, all participants will be given a badge recognized by the European Commission that will be valid in all exchange projects.

Debate Exchange is bringing young people from different backgrounds together to develop debate skills with the support of a network of trained Debate Team Leaders, fostering listening and understanding through debate and dialogue activities. The central component of the programme is a model of debate whereby participants are first taught to listen, understand and absorb what others in the group are saying before responding to the messages being relayed, rather than reacting to the person, the situation or the assumed context of the arguments put forward.

Project Location: All activities will be organized online/Virtually.

The target audience of the project activities is young people between the ages of 18-30 and youth workers. The aim of the project is to develop mutual understanding and dialogue between young people and to support youth skills development. The program equips young people with the skills needed to succeed in today's globalizing world, such as critical thinking, intercultural communication, empathy, media and digital literacy.

Project activities consist of 4 stages.
1.Team Leaders Training: It will be organized by Erasmus Plus Virtual Exchange Advocacy Training team. It will be arranged in English, French and Arabic on certain days according to the training calendar. Training takes 6 hours (1 full day) in total. Introduction of the structure of Erasmus Plus Virtual Exchange Program in general; organizing online debates and post-debate discussion sessions; Establishing a debate team will include debate management skills. At the end of the training, team leaders will form their own teams and participate in the international online debate event.
2.Local Trainings: Team leaders will be organized by the leaders who have successfully completed their training to form their own debate team. Team leaders will take place within the week following their training. The date of the training will be announced by IYACA. The training will take 4 hours in total. The content of the training is to introduce the structure of the Erasmus Pus Virtual Exchange Program in general; organizing online debates and post-debate discussion sessions; forming a debate team; It will include debate management skills. Teams formed at the end of the training will participate in the international online debate event.
3.International Online Debate: It will be held between teams formed by organizations participating in the Erasmus Plus Virtual Exchange Advocacy Training project. It will take place after team leaders training. he subject of the debate will be determined by the teams. The debate will be led by the team leaders. The session will last 4 hours. At the end of the event, a survey will be conducted to evaluate the learning processes of the teams.
4. Post-Debate Evaluation Sessions: It will be held 1 week after the international online debate event. Teams will meet and evaluate each other. The session will last 3 hours. At the end of the session, the participants will be surveyed and given their badges.

Note: The above 4-stage training and activity cycle will be carried out monthly and will be repeated 7 times throughout the project.

There will be a total of 7 different groups in the project. 20 participants at local meetings, 1 leader, 6 participants and 2 observers for each group to be selected at international meetings will attend the online meetings. Young people who meet or accept the following conditions can apply to the project. Please do not fill out the application form if you do not meet or agree to these conditions!

* Being in the age range of 18-30;
* High interest and motivation for the project subject;
* Be willing to learn more about advocacy;
* Being compatible with teamwork;
* Being open-minded, open to innovations, sharing and learning;
* Having a basic knowledge of English (able to express themselves in English);
* At the end of the project, agree to prepare blog / movie, report;
* To be willing to disseminate the gains from the project;
* To commit to full participation in the activities;
* Agree to sign a participation / learning agreement with IYACA;
* To agree to make preparations for pre-project activities carefully and regularly;
* To agree to participate in all project activities with care and to fulfill all duties of the team leader in accordance with the activity calendar;
* Being limited in opportunities due to economic, social, cultural, geographical and educational reasons may be a preference / priority reason;

No financial support and budget items were defined within the scope of the project. Therefore, no financial support will be provided to the participants. However, equipment (computer, headset, notepad, etc.) and internet connection will be provided free of charge to the participants, on the condition that they cover the transportation and accommodation costs (if necessary). All this support will be provided by paying attention to hygiene and Covid-19 social distance rules at the center of the association.
